Hello my name is Helen Webster. I have been a qualified nursery nurse for 13 yrs, working in a variety of settings. I started running TalkFirst classes in September 2007. My own daughter Hannah loves Dexter puppet which we use in classes and I am sure your little one will do too! I offer classes for parents and children and also deliver baby signing training in nurseries to staff. All sessions are good fun and lively. I hold the CACDP (Council for the Advancement of Communication with Deaf People) Level 1 Certficate British Sign Language. A great big WELL DONE to Charlotte at my Whalley class and Samuel from my Giddy Kippers class who both completed a full year of signing! They loved the certificates, books and window wobblers that Dexter gave to them.
What a lovely story of James and signing...
"Sorry we werent at class yesterday - James has chicken pox at the moment. Just thought I'd let you know how useful his signing has been this week though.... he's still not got any words but can sign to tell me when he wants to go to bed and that's been brilliant. We don't have tantrums about bedtime at all and he's surprised us quite a bit by asking to go to bed when he doesn't look at all tired, sometimes only an hour or so since he last woke up, then going straight to sleep. So glad we've been signing as there's nothing worse than an overtired poorly baby!

having a family day event on Saturday 19 September 2009 from 10.30am to 12.30pm, at the The Grand on York Street. Gt Harwoods Children's Centre will be celebrating their 1st birthday on Thursday 17 September 2009 from 1pm to 4pm! Congratulations to you all! I will be there from 1pm with Dexter puppet and my talkfirst stand - please come along and make this day a huge success!
Williams Hall Children's Centre in Nelson - I will be providing the parent and toddler group a demonstration and chat on baby signing which helps to develop communication. This will be on Thursday 17 September 2009 at 10am at the centre. I look forward to seeing you there.
Family Fun Day in August!
Put the date in your diary for the big event taking place at Whalley Village Hall on Sunday 30 August 2009 from 10am - 3pm. This is a charity family fun day event with TalkFirst and Kindermusic helping to raise money for Rainbow House and the Autistic Society. This fantastic event will have face painting, various stands, refreshments, tombolas, and raffle prizes from local businesses. Demos from TalkFirst and Kindermusic will also be on throughout the day! Open Day Invitation...
Whalley Meadows Private Day Nursery is having an open day on Saturday 18 July 2009 from 1m to 5pm, and I have been invited to do a demonstration of baby signing, my theme will be 'farmyard animals'! I will be offering a FREE prize draw on the day too. The open day is a chance to look round the nursery and meet the staff, hope to see you there!

It’s Lucas' mum here from the wednesday 10am Nelson class, just letting you know before I forget Lucas signed his first proper sign on Sunday and it was 'all gone' and then today we’ve just got back from the zoo and he s just done the sign for 'duck' ......... I’m sooooooooooooooooo proud of him after all his lessons they finally paying off so thank you and I'll see you tomorrow Lynne and Lucas x

What are you looking for?
1. A local baby signing class for me and my child.
Class prices, times and locations are listed on the next tab under 'Our Classes'. Classes run in term time. Classes are aimed at all children up to 30 months, newborns are welcome. Discounts/some free places are available for your 2nd or 3rd child. Classes numbers are limited to 15 babies and so pre booking is essential. To enrol on a class, contact me to check availability and then print off this enrolment form and post to me with your cheque.
2. A baby signing party for my child e.g. birthdays/christening etc.
You don't have to come to classes to have a baby signing party. So if you are looking for a party with a difference for your child, please contact me. Parties are 1 hour (plus however long you decide for food/socialising) and are aimed at children up to 30 months (although older guests will be able to participate and enjoy!) Parties include singing, games, music and puppets and of course signing. The maximum number of children particiapting is 15. Contact me for more information and current prices.
3. Baby Signing books and posters for me and my child.
I sell a range of baby signing products at all classes including musical instruments. Prices and samples are available at the class. There is also a wider range of baby signing books on our webshop. Click here to browse.
4. Private baby signing sessions in my home.
If you can't get to classes but would like to learn how to sign with your child, I am availble for private sessions either on a one off or regular basis. Please get in touch.
5. Free colour signs to print off.

Nursery and Professional Info
What are you looking for?
1. Regular baby signing classes in my nursery/childrens centre. Classes can be run either with parents and children e.g. Children’s Centre Setting or with your own staff and children e.g. Private Day Nursery setting. I’m flexible and can offer 6 week blocks, bi weekly classes etc for groups of up to 15 children per class. Classes support many EYFS aims and objectives. Please feel free to contact me to arrange to visit an existing class to see for yourself how a class can benefit your setting.
Other information:
• 45 minute classes for all babies and young children up to 30 months.
• Each class is different over the period of 1 academic year. • 8 new signs are introduced each week.
• Each class is themed around everyday relevant topics e.g. bath time, weather, meal times etc.
• All classes include music, instruments, songs, rhymes, puppets, props and activities which are all based around the weekly theme.
• Multi sensory approach: classes are inclusive to children/parents with disabilities and also those who do not speak English as a first language.
I have delivered classes at the following settings:
Ribblesdale Childrens Centre, The Beeches Childrens Centre, Great Harwood Childrens Centre.
2. Training for my Early Years staff at our setting (on using signs). I deliver innovative and lively certificated training courses to help you incorporate signing as part of daily communication within your setting. Feedback from past participants is always very positive and the sessions WILL motivate your staff. Both Introductory and Follow on courses are available for groups of up to 20 participants. Each training course is 4 hours long and can be delivered in 2 x 2hr sessions or on one day. Twilight sessions are available. Handouts and certificates are included. Sessions include games, activities and songs to help reinforce the signs. Please contact me for an information pack.

3. Baby signing books and posters to use in our setting. There is a wide range of baby signing posters, books and book bundles on our web shop. Click here to browse. 4. Help with a one off event e.g. demonstrations/taster session etc. I offer one off or in-frequent baby signing demonstrations and taster sessions. Contact me to check my availability for your next open day/event.
