Hello I'm Susan Broxton.

My interest in baby signing began with my own children. I've found it brilliant and I love it.

I hold Level 2 in British Sign Language and the CACDP (Council for the Advancement of Communication with Deaf People) Level 1 Certificate in British Sign Language.

I have been a TalkFirst tutor since 2006. I share my baby signing expertise with both families and childcare professionals and offer a full range of classes and staff training to suit your needs.

Hi Susan

I hope you have had a lovely summer, I cant believe its come and gone already! Just wanted to let you know that you and Dexter have played a big part in our summer holidays! I am delighted to inform you that Scarlett can now do 32 signs! Since starting the class she has only ever signed 'all gone' and now she has gone sign crazy! I am soooo proud! She takes the dictionary with her to nursery on a Monday and Friday and the staff can really communicate with her, they think its amazing, and I think its amazing!

What are you looking for?

1. A local baby signing class for me and my child.

Class prices, times and locations are listed on the next tab under 'Our Classes'. Classes run in term time. Classes are aimed at all children up to 30 months, newborns are welcome. Discounts/some free places are available for your 2nd or 3rd child. Classes numbers are limited to 15 babies and so pre booking is essential. To enrol on a class, contact me to check availability and then print off this enrolment form and post to me with your cheque.

2. A baby signing party for my child e.g. birthdays/christening etc.

You don't have to come to classes to have a baby signing party. So if you are looking for a party with a difference for your child, please contact me. Parties are 1 hour (plus however long you decide for food/socialising) and are aimed at children up to 30 months (although older guests will be able to participate and enjoy!) Parties include singing, games, music and puppets and of course signing. The maximum number of children particiapting is 15. Contact me for more information and current prices.

3. Baby Signing books and posters for me and my child.

I sell a range of baby signing products at all classes including musical instruments. Prices and samples are available at the class. There is also a wider range of baby signing books on our webshop. Click here to browse.

4. Private baby signing sessions in my home.

If you can't get to classes but would like to learn how to sign with your child, I am availble for private sessions either on a one off or regular basis. Please get in touch.

5. Free colour signs to print off.

Nursery and Professional Info

What are you looking for?

1. Regular baby signing classes in my nursery/childrens centre. Classes can be run either with parents and children e.g. Children’s Centre Setting or with your own staff and children e.g. Private Day Nursery setting. I’m flexible and can offer 6 week blocks, bi weekly classes etc for groups of up to 15 children per class. Classes support many EYFS aims and objectives. Please feel free to contact me to arrange to visit an existing class to see for yourself how a class can benefit your setting.

Other information:

• 45 minute classes for all babies and young children up to 30 months.

• Each class is different over the period of 1 academic year. • 8 new signs are introduced each week.

• Each class is themed around everyday relevant topics e.g. bath time, weather, meal times etc.

• All classes include music, instruments, songs, rhymes, puppets, props and activities which are all based around the weekly theme.

• Multi sensory approach: classes are inclusive to children/parents with disabilities and also those who do not speak English as a first language.

I have delivered classes in the following settings:

Bacup Nursery, Staghills Childrens Centre, Hebden Vale Childrens Centre, Todmorden Childrens Centre, Balladen Childrens Centre, Puddleducks Nursery in Haslingden, The Village Nursery in Haslingden, Castle Hill Day Nursery.

2. Training for my Early Years staff at our setting (on using signs). I deliver innovative and lively certificated training courses to help you incorporate signing as part of daily communication within your setting. Feedback from past participants is always very positive and the sessions WILL motivate your staff. Both Introductory and Follow on courses are available for groups of up to 20 participants. Each training course is 4 hours long and can be delivered in 2 x 2hr sessions or on one day. Twilight sessions are available. Handouts and certificates are included. Sessions include games, activities and songs to help reinforce the signs. Please contact me for an information pack.

I have delivered staff training in the following settings:

Buffer Bear Nursery, Bacup Nursery, Blossoms Private Day Nursery, Puddleducks Nursery. Castle Hill Day Nursery, ABC Nursery Todmorden, Little Holcombe Nursery.

Signing has really helped Sophie's communication skills and enables her to interact with all our family and friends.

I just wanted to say many thanks for the classes Anton and i have attended they have been so useful and helped anton to communicate whilst he hasn't been talking. He has since come on leaps and bounds with his speech but would you believe often still reinforces his words with signs he has learnt. He really has amazed my husband and I and our family with the signs he has learnt and still uses especially as in many classes he appeared not to be taking it all in as the trucks passing seemed to be grabbing his interest!! How wrong I was! So I would like to say a big thankyou for all you have done for Anton enabling him to communicate with us, reducing his frustration and allow him to express himself in such a positive way.
